Austin Peay may not know if or what postseason tournament it will play in until later tonight, most likely after the NIT (National Invitational Tournament) Selection Show.
The NCAA just released its 65-team bracket, which APSU didn’t make, and the NIT won’t decide its 32-team field until 8 p.m. tonight on ESPN. UT Martin, which won the OVC regular season, earned an automatic berth to the NIT and the speculation is it wouldn’t take two OVC teams.
The Govs – who lost in the OVC Tournament championship game in double overtime to Morehead State – could play in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI), but are rumored to be in the running for a spot in the CollegeInsiders.com Postseason Tournament (CIPT).
Both 16-team tournaments will select their teams after the NIT picks its field.
Morehead State was picked to play in the NCAA Opening Round Game, commonly called the ‘Play-in Game’ Tuesday night against Alabama State in Dayton, Ohio. The winner moves on as the 16-seed to play top-seeded and overall No. 1 Louisville in Dayton on Friday.
